Google Carnage – The Next Penguin Update
Every now and then Google likes to mix things up by changing their algorithms to help weed out all those spammy sites that provide very little value to the reader.
In a couple of days time, Google is planning to release it’s biggest set of changes to search engine rankings in it’s history. Apparently it’s so big that the Google God himself, Mat Cutts made the unusual decision to announce it at a conference a couple of weeks ago.
Matt said “you don’t want the next Penguin update.” He warned that the Google “engineers have been working hard” on this update. He even added the next few updates will be “jarring and jolting” for webmasters and SEOs.
Google isn’t unleashing Armageddon on the search results for fun. They are doing it to make their product is the best it can be for the end user (Think about all those times you have been frustrated by rubbish results while searching the Google-net).
In theory this next update could even be good for your rankings. If your competitors have been using dodgy SEO tactics to outrank you, chances are their 1st page rankings will disappear overnight leaving your website to harvest all those potential visitors/customers!
How can you survive or even improve your Google Rankings ?
- Create quality content that your readers just can’t get enough of
- Become one of the top influencers in your industry
- Look for other sources of traffic. Don’t just rely on traffic from Google (Try a Free Google Adword Voucher for example)
Remember, if it easy, it’s probably not worth doing. Shortcuts can only get you so far… If those shortcuts look like you have been cheating, chances are you will pay the price for it at some point. Right now, there is a rogue penguin out there wielding a giant chainsaw.
